Quitman girls, boys sweep N’East Jones

LAUREL — Shonte Hailes scored eight points for Quitman High School as the Lady Panthers rolled past Northeast Jones High School, 42-28, Thursday in the Region 5-4A tournament at Northeast Jones.

Northeast Jones’ Jada Simmons had a game-high 10 points. Quitman led 17-15 at the break.

The Lady Panthers will play in the regional championship game at 7 tonight.

Quitman boys 79, NE Jones 45

Quitman’s Tavarias Moore scored 13 points for the Panthers as they advanced to the Region 5-4A championship game.

DeQuan Stanley and Antonio McKines each had 10 points for Quitman, which led 44-20 at intermission.

The Knights will play against at 8:30 p.m. today in the finals.
