Meridian CC softball team set to host tourney

MERIDIAN — The Meridian Community College softball team is preparing for a huge weekend of softball action in Meridian. The Lady Eagles will be hosting the 2014 Rush Invitational Softball Tournament Friday and Saturday at Tommy McDonald Field in Meridian.

The Lady Eagles played their first games of the 2014 regular season Tuesday afternoon and suffered a sweep (2-7, 0-13) at the hands of Shelton State Community College.

The tournament will feature three squads that will take part in the two-day event in Highland Park. The tournament will begin Friday morning with an 11 a.m. game that will feature MCC and Mississippi Gulf Coast. The final two games of the opening day

of the tournament will feature a doubleheader between Mississippi Gulf Coast and Bishop State that is scheduled for 1 p.m.

MCC (0-2) will conclude play in the 2014 Rush Invitational by taking on Bishop State in a doubleheader scheduled for noon at Tommy McDonald Field. The Lady Eagles will close out their current seven-game home stand by hosting East Mississippi Community College in a doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m.
