ECCC golfers begin season at Gulf Coast Tourney

MERIDIAN —     East Central Community College’s golf team began the 2014 season by participating in the MACJC Event #1 held Feb. 9-10 at the Great Southern Golf Course in Gulfport.

    The Warrior linksters placed sixth with a 635 total in the 36-hole event, won by Meridian Community College with a 588 score.

    Tournament host MS Gulf Coast Community College finished second at 595, followed by Copiah-Lincoln, 610; Northwest MS, 624; East MS, 631; ECCC; Jones County, 646; Hinds, 655; and Itawamba, 674.Northeast MS also participated but did not finish.

    Sawyer Williams led EC with rounds of 79 and 75 for a 154 total. Williams is a product of Parkers Chapel High School in Eldorado, AR.

    Other scorers were Taylor York of Choctaw Central, 156 (83-73); Aaron Tucker of Leake Central, 159 (79-80); Karlton Ginn of Franklinton (La.) High School, 166 (83-83); and Sam Williams of Newton County Academy, 184 (97-87).

    Chris Clark serves as Warrior golf coach.
