USM raids Auburn for new offensive coach

MERIDIAN — HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss announced Tuesday the hiring of Chip Lindsey as assistant football coach, who will serve as both the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the program.

“Chip is an outstanding coach who has an impressive track record leading him here to Southern Miss,” said Golden Eagle coach Todd Monken. “We share similar philosophies on offense and he has had success moving the football everywhere he has been in his career.”

Lindsey comes to Southern Miss after spending the 2013 season with the national champion runner-up Auburn Tigers as an analyst for the offense, concentrating on the wide receivers and passing game.

Lindsey joined Auburn after a successful two-year stint at Spain Park (Ala.) High School in Hoover, where he was head coach in 2011-12 and led the Jaguars to their first Class 6A regional championship in program history. He coached Golden Eagle quarterback Nick Mullens during his time there.

He served as quarterbacks coach at Troy University in 2010, following up a long list of accomplishments as a prep coach in football and baseball from 1997-2009.
