West Lauderdale boys fall, girls advance in Class 4A MHSAA playoffs

MERIDIAN —     COLLINSVILLE - The West Lauderdale Knights were knocked out of the 2nd round of the Class 4A MHSAA playoffs with a devastating 5-0 loss at home on Saturday night to the Bay High School Tigers.

    The Bay High School boys managed to strike early in the first half and keep a steady lead throughout the game with three consecutive goals in the first half.

    Sophomore Mark Johnson led the team with two goals in the first half heating up the Bay High School Tigers and setting a steady pace for the rest of the game.

    " It was all about that first shoot in the first half," Coach Kelly Ross said. "We were able to move on from there as a team with a steady momentum and solid shooting."

    By the second half, Bay High School had already acquired one goal apiece from senior Patrick Ponder and junior Heath Sahuque along with two assists from Parker Rose

    Coach Ross also said that there was no stand out player in this game, but that it was a team effort from everybody.

    Bay High School is now set to take on their next opponent in round three of the MHSAA playoffs.

    Jami Daughtry led the Knights with two goals in the first half and was followed by Jada Smith with a goal and an assist and Kaitlyn Knuth navigating nine saves.
