MERIDIAN — Hattiesburg     53

Meridian girls     50

Despite controlling much of the game the Meridian girls basketball team fell to Hattiesburg Friday night.

Up 45-43 with two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Meridian fouled a Hattiesburg's Cynthia Richardson as she made a basket, sending her to the line for a three-point play. Richardson would sink the free-throw to give the Tigers the lead.

Meridian's Miracle Dubose would step up on the Wildcats next possession, converting on a three-point play of her own to put the 'Cats back up 48-46.

However, things would go downhill from there for Meridian. Hattiesburg's Zaria Tillman would score the game's next four points to give the Tigers a 52-48 lead with under a minute.

The Tigers were able to tick down the clock and hold Meridian the rest of the game to hold on for the win.

“It was definitely a game we could have won,” Patricia Wilson said. “We made a lot of bonehead mistakes, we didn't play smart at all today. We were in the one-and-one a long time and we weren't able to do anything with it.”

Meridian falls to 19-4 with the loss.

“I'm really disapointed with our performance tonight,” Wilson said. “A lot of it is mental, my kids need to grow up and be ready to play.
