West tops Itawamba in Game 3

MERIDIAN —     The West Lauderdale High School baseball team defeated Itawamba Agricultural High School, 10-0, Saturday to advance past the Indians and into the second round of the MHSAA playoffs.

    Blake Anderson led the charge for the Knights (27-2), smacking two hits, including a double. Ryan Lane contributed with a single and a double, while Colton McKeithen, Will Stokes and McKain Ortlepp each registered base hits.

    "We hit the ball a lot better," West Lauderdale coach Jerry Boatner said. "We were able to hit the ball on the sweet spot of the bat, and I was real pleased with our hitting."

    Additionally, the Knights executed six sacrifice bunts, including four squeeze plays.

    "We played small ball," West Lauderdale coach Jerry Boatner said. "We played our game tonight. Every time that we bunted, it worked to perfection.”

    Mason Woldridge earned the win, tossing five innings with seven strikeouts.

    West Lauderdale advances to play Lafayette County High School with the series set to begin Friday at Lafayette.
