Newton County tops Pass Christian

NEWTON — The Newton County Cougars used a strong fourth inning to defeat Pass Christian 5-4 Saturday night in baseball playoff action.

"This was a huge third game win for us," said Newton County head coach, Wyatt Tullos. "The boys played hard to put is into the next round of the playoffs."

With the Cougars, down 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, took advantage of a bases loaded walk to tie the score at 2. Albert McDougle then connected on a single to left field scoring two more runs. Peyton Cain scored Eli Harrison on a sacrifice fly and the Cougars ended the inning up 5-2.

Pass Christian added one run in the top of the sixth and another in the top of the 7th, but the Cougars held on to clinch the series.

The Cougars improve to 18-13 on the season and will face Colombia High School in the second round of playoff action.
