Quitman beats West Lauderdale 10-3

QUITMAN — The Quitman softball team earned its first district win of the season, as the Panthers defeated West Lauderdale 10-3 at home Thursday night.

    Abigail Toomey earned the win for the Panthers in the circle, holding West to just five hits on the night.

    Quitman put on a hitting display, as Mallory Lee led the charge, going 3 /4 with two RBIs and a triple. Callie Belcher went 3 /4 with an RBI and a triple, Hannah Hampton went 2/3 with a triple, Whitney Neely wnt 2/4 with an RBI and a double and Toomey went 1/ 4 with 2 RBIs and a double on the night.

    Mallory Vance led the Knights in a losing effort, going 2/3 and scoring two runs. Joanna Stewart also had a solid night, going 2/4 with an RBI.

    Quitman improves to 4-8 (1-1) with the win and will face Meridian tonight at home.
