Lady ‘Cats claw past Starkville

MERIDIAN — Miracle Dubose led the Meridian High School girls basketball team to a 58-52 home win over Starkville Saturday night helping the Lady Wildcats overcome a four-point deficit at the half.

    Dubose scored a team-high 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady ‘Cats. Kayla Gordon had 14 points and seven rebounds while Tyquisha Naylor had 10 points and seven boards for Meridian.

    Trailing Starkville (0-2) 21-17 at the half, Meridian (2-1) used a 25-point third quarter to pull away for the win.

    Meridian will travel to Wayne County on Tuesday.

Starkville 63, Meridian 54

    The Meridian High School boys basketball rallied from a 23-point deficit in the third quarter, but it was not enough to take down Starkville as the Wildcats fell 63-54 to the Yellowjackets Friday night.

    Jontavius Thomas led Meridian on the night, compiling 16 points and eight rebound to go along with eight blocks. Joel Baskin also had a big game scoring 13 points for the Wildcats.

    Meridian moves to 2-1 on the season and will travel to Wayne County on Tuesday.
