Luker named Neshoba Central head coach

—     Former Sweet Water (Ala.) High School football coach Stacy Luker will take over as the new head coach of Neshoba Central High School, The Meridian Star confirmed Tuesday morning.

    Luker, 49, compiled a 131-32 record during his time at Sweet Water, outscoring opponents 6,575-2,287 according to the West Alabama Watchman. He won five state championships with Sweet Water including three in a row from 2006 to 2008. His overall playoff record is 38-7. Luker, a former University of West Alabama graduate, coached five years at Thomasville (Ala.) and Washington County (Ala.) before taking the job at Sweet Water in 2002 and boasts a 171-66 overall record as a head coach.

    He will replace former Rockets head coach Chuck Friend who stepped down from the position following the 2013 season where Neshoba Central finished 1-10.

    Luker's hiring was approved by the Neshoba County School Board Monday night. He will earn $71,420 a year according to the Neshoba Democrat.
