Hinds rips past Warriors 48-14

RAYMOND — East Central Community College’s tough start to the 2013 football season continued Thursday night as the Warriors fell, 48-14, on the road to Hinds Community College.

The Eagles struck first as Gregory Foster ran in a four-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put Hinds up 7-0.

Eagles quarterback Diante Thomas would then find Desmond Anderson on a 12-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter to double the lead for Hinds.

The Eagles would get touchdown runs from Tommy McCalpin (three yards) and Robert Lockhart (27 yards) as they rolled into halftime with a 27-0 lead.

The  onslaught continued in the second half as Gregory Foster added his second touchdown of the night on a one-yard run to make the score 34-0.

East Central would get on the board with six seconds left in the third quarter when running back Martin Johnson broke free for a 27-yard touchdown run. After a successful PAT from Austin Franklin, the Warriors trailed Hinds 34-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Foster would complete the hat-trick in the fourth quarter though, as he ran in his final score of the game from 11 yards out.

The Warriors would answer back when quarterback Jacori Taylor found Jimmy Cockrell for a touchdown to cut the score to 41-14 after a successful PAT from Franklin. But it wouldn’t be enough as McCalpin rounded out the scoring with a 41-yard touchdown run for Hinds.

Lemarcus Franks led the Warriors on the ground with 18 carries for 105 yards, while Johnson carried the ball 12 times for 48 yards. Hakeem Parker caught five passes for 32 yards to lead in receiving.
