MERIDIAN — Will Stokes and the West Lauderdale baseball team took down Quitman Tuesday night, beating the Panthers 5-1 on the road.

    Stokes pitched all seven innings for the Knights, striking out 13 batters while giving up five hits.

    At the plate, Blake Anderson led West Lauderdale with two hits, including a home run. Stokes and Mason Woolridge both had two hits for West Lauderdale as well.

    Quitman’s Kyle Colston led the Panthers with two singles.

    West Lauderdale 13-5 (7-0) will host Quitman on Friday.

Newton County 5

Northeast Lauderdale 0

    Newton County remained perfect in district play Tuesday night, taking down Northeast Lauderdale 5-0 on the road.

    Will Brand (6-0) earned the win for the Cougars, pitching all seven innings, while striking out six batters and only allowing two hits.

    Jacob Edwards, Reagan Warren, Dan Nelson and Brand each had two hits on the night, as the Cougars rolled past the Trojans.

    With the win Newton County improves to 13-4 (7-0) and will host Northeast Lauderdale on Friday.


Lamar 11

Laurel Christian 1

    The Lamar baseball team took down Laurel Christian 11-1 Tuesday night at home.

    Cole Gray earned the win for Lamar, going six innings while  striking out nine batters and only allowing one hit.

    The Raiders were led at the plate by Lance Strickland, who went 3/4 with two RBIs and two runs.

    The win improves Lamar to 8-11 (2-3). The Raiders will travel to Laurel Christian on Thursday.

Russell Christian 6

Newton County Aca. 3


    The Russell Christian Academy baseball team took down Newton County Acadmey 6-3 Tuesday night.

    Dylan Nolan (5-0) earned the win, throwing 10 strikeouts on the night for the Warriors.

    Jacob Stephens went 3/4 for the Warrios, while Jesse Barksdale provided the game-winning hit.

    RCA improves to 9-5 (5-0) on the season.


Quitman 15

Northeast Jones 5 

    The Quitman softball team took down Northeast Jones 15-5 Tuesday night.

    Kallie Belcher (6-4) went six innings and struck out four batters to earn the win for the Panthers.

    Whitney Neeley led Quitman, going 3/5 on the night, while Glenella Odom also had three hits on the night. Belcher, Tori Dew and Shonte Hailes all had two hits for the Panthers.

    Quitman improves to 9-10 (2-2) and will play Newton County at home on Thursday.


Clarkdale 1

Union 0

    The Clarkdale softball team pulled out a narrow win Tuesday, beating Union 1-0.

    Molly McCloud got the win for the Bulldogs, going all seven innings, while striking out 10 batters.

    Heather Harwell led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 1/3 with a single and an RBI.

    Alex Riser and Aubree McWilliams both had hits for the Bulldogs as well.

    Anna Guin made the last out of the game by throwing out a runner from behind the plate.

    With the win, Clarkdale improves to 5-11 (2-1) and will play Lake at home Thursday.
