Warriors, Karcher suffer first road loss of 2013

POPLARVILLE —     The East Central Warriors and first year head coach Ken Karcher lost their season opener, 40-7, at NJCAA No. 16 Itawamba Community College on Thursday night.

    The Warriors were outscored 27-0 in the first half before getting on the board in the third quarter.

    Hakem Parker caught a 60-yard pass from quarterback Jacori Taylor and Austin Franklin connected on the extra point to cut the Indians' lead to 27-7 with 10:01 left in the quarter.

    Itawamba used a balance of their running and passing game to move to 1-0 on the season.

    With 2:28 left in the third quarter, the Indian's found the end zone on a 30-yard pass from Griff Loftis to Jaquez McMilan to make it 33-7.

    The game's final score happened with 11:39 to play in the fourth when Itawamba's Chris Ingram rushed for a 10-yard touchdown.

    East Central will continue its season opening road trip at Scooba next Thursday to take on East Mississippi Community College at 7 p.m.
