Roudup: Clarkdale baseball, Quitman softball win

MERIDIAN — The Clarkdale baseball team continued its hot start to the 2013 season, taking down Forest 3-2 on the road Saturday.

    Levi Wedgeworth (2-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs, going 5 2/3 innings while striking out nine batters.

    Chance McDonald got the Bulldogs started at the plate with a two-run double in the top of the third to put Clarkdale up 2-0.

    Nick Perry added the eventual winning run when he laced a two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth to increase the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-0.

    Jonathan Porter had a double for Clarkdale.

    With the win, Clarkdale improves to 10-2 (3-1) on the season. The Bulldogs will host Puckett at home on Tuesday.

Quitman 8

NW Rankin 6


    The Quitman softball team took down Northwest Rankin 8-6 at home Saturday.

    Kallie Belcher earned the win for the Panthers, pitching four innings while giving up six runs and tallying three strikeouts.

    Abigail Toomey picked up the save for Quitman, slamming the door for the Panthers with three innings of shutout softball.

    Tori Dew led the Panthers at the plate, going 2/3 with a double and a triple.

    Toomey and Hannah Lafferty also went 2/3 with two RBIs apiece.

    Quitman got the win despite falling into an early 5-0 hole after two innings.

    The Panthers improve to 5-8 (1-1) with the victory and will host Northeast Lauderdale Thursday night.
