State champion Southeast leads large MAC All-Star contingent

MERIDIAN — Fresh off their first state slow-pitch state championship, the Southeast Lauderdale Tigers will show up in force at Mack Fanning Softball Stadium at Newton County today for the MAC All-Star games. Fanning, the former Newton County coach and current Tigers head man, will coach the South Class 1A/2A/3A team and will be assisted by SEL assistant Ashlee Bailey. The two coaches will be joined by standouts Denisha Knight and Bri Roulier. Other area starts on the South 1A/2A/3A team are Clarkdale’s Kristen Mitchell and Lauren Thrash and Philadelphia Precious Moore.

West Lauderdale, which fell in the South State championship round to Newton County, will headline the area contingent in the large school game as Knight coaches Cary Luke and Jody Hurst will lead the South. West’s Ashley Adams and Mallory Turner will be part of the South 4A/5A/6A team where they will be joined by Northeast Lauderdale’s Elizabeth Barnacastle and Quitman’s Tori Dew.

Game 1 of the Class 1A/2A/3A series starts at 1 p.m. followed by Game 1 of the  large schools. Game 2s are slated to begin at 3 p.m.
