Meridian sweeps district opener at Petal

    Ashton Temple scored a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds as the Russell Christian Academy boys basketball team took down Clarkdale 57-41 Tuesday night.

    Temple was joined in double digits by Tyler Bolden with 14 points and Arik Washington with 12. The Warriors moved to 7-5 (1-0) with the win and will play Enterprise at 7 p.m. Friday at Meridian Community College.

Russell girls 34

    The Russell Christian Academy girls basketball led Clarkdale all night as they took down the Lady Bulldogs 34-21 Tuesday night.

    Anna James had 12 points and four steals for the Lady Warriors and was followed by Blair Robinson (nine points, eight rebounds) and Payton Lippert (eight points 17 rebounds). RCA moves to 8-7 (0-1) with the win and will play Enterprise Friday night.

Sylva Bay Aca. boys 59

Newton County Aca. 36


    Sylva Bay Academy came into Tuesday night’s contest against Newton County Academy ranked the No. 1 team in MAIS A. The Saints justified that ranking by taking down the Generals 59-36.

    Grant Nyguard led Sylva Bay with 23 points, 12 of which came off of put-back  shots, and was followed by Craig Campbell with 13 and Thomas Tullos with 12. Chance Collins led NCA with 10 points despite battling flu-like symptoms.

    The Generals fall to 6-4 on the season and will travel to Lamar Christian on Thursday.

   

Sylva Bay Aca. girls 66

Newton County Aca. 26


     Holly Jones led the Newton County Academy girls basketball team with 16 points in a 66-26 loss to Sylva Bay Academy.

    The Lady Generals fall to 2-6 and will travel to Lamar Christian Thursday.

West Lauderdale boys 65

Kemper County 36


    The West Lauderdale boys basketball team continued its dominance on the hardwood Tuesday night, taking down Kemper County 65-36.

    Vince Watkins led the Knights with 24 points, while E.J. Collier added another 14 for West Lauderdale. The Knights improved to 15-2 with the win and will host Kosciusko Friday night.
