ECCC hosts rival EMCC on hardwood

MERIDIAN —     Two longtime community college rivals will battle on the hardwood to begin competition in the New Year.

East Central and East Mississippi squads will meet Tuesday, Jan. 7, in non-division matchups on the Decatur campus.

Women’s action tips off at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m. in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building.

ECCC squads are hoping for a different outcome than when the two teams met on Nov. 14, 2013, in Scooba, as the Lady Lions held on for an 86-74 decision and the Lions pulled away for an 87-69 victory.

The Lady Warriors are 5-5 overall under second-year head coach Crandal Porter.

East Mississippi’s women are 5-4 overall under head coach Sharon Thompson.

The Warriors are also 5-5 overall and are led by first-year head mentor Robert Thompson.

The East Mississippi men sport a 6-2 mark under head coach Mark White.
