Northeast uses buzzer-beater to sink Southeast

    The Quitman girls basketball team squeaked out a 48-46 win over Northeast Lauderdale in the opening round of the Sam Dale Tournament at Kemper County High School Friday night.

    Jelisa Pearson led the Lady Panthers with 18 points, while Shonte Hailes scored 11 points, including three three-pointers, for Quitman. Northeast was led by Dana Logan with 12 points.

    With the win, Quitman (12-2) will play Southeast Lauderdale in the girls championship game at 5 p.m. tonight. Northeast will face Kemper County in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m.

    The Lady Tigers advanced to the championship round of the Sam Dale Tournament Friday night, beating Kemper County, 41-32.

    Chariae Harbin led Southeast with a game-high 16 points, while Shakira Shoemaker had 11 points. Kasmine Nunn led Kemper County with 11 points.

    Southeast moves to 9-4 with the win.

    The Lamar boys' basketball team won against Enterprise High School Friday night 49-42. 

    High scorers for the Raiders were Trevor Boling with 18 points, Jonathan Young with 14 and Brett Shaffer had 13.  For the Bulldogs, Robinson had 16 points and Whitaker had 10. .
