Basketball Roundup 12/14

MERIDIAN — Meridian (boys) 78

Aberdeen 50

    The Meridian boys basketball rolled past Aberdeen in the Louisville Shooutout Friday night, beating the Bulldogs 78-50.

    B.J. Miller led the Wildcats with 18 points while also tallying five rebounds. Robert Peden used three three-pointers to put up 15 point, while Jontavious Thomas scored 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and five blocks. Joel Baskin had 11 points and six rebounds for Meridian as well.

    The Wildcats improve to 9-2 on the season and will host the No. 1 team in the state, Callaway, on Tuesday.


Meridian (girls) 59

Aberdeen 11

    Meridian made easy work of Aberdeen Friday night, as Kayla Gordon recorded a double-double to help the Lady Wildcats to a 59-11 win.

    Gordon scored 13 points and recorded 12 rebounds while Alliejah Echols, Miracle Dubose and Tyquisha Naylor all had 10 points. Dubose finished the night with eight rebounds.

    Meridian (9-1) will face Callaway at home on Tuesday.

Northeast Lauderdale (boys) 43

Greene County 38

    Despite nearly blowing a 20-point lead at halftime, the Northeast Lauderdale boys basketball team held on to win their district opener against Green County, 45-38, at home Friday night.

    Maurice Clemons led the Trojans with 16 points while Greene County was led by Joseph Lafitte with 13.

    Northeast (4-6, 1-0) will host Neshoba Central on Monday.

Northeast Lauderdale (girls) 48

Greene County 46

    The Lady Trojans opened up their district schedule at home Friday night with a 48-46 win over Greene County.

    Shaqunta McDonald led the Lady Trojans with 16 points while Brittany Williams scored 11 for Northeast (5-5, 1-0)

Russell Christian Academy (boys) 58

Sumter Academy 51

    The Russell Christian Academy boys basketball team took down Sumter (Ala.) Academy 58-51 Friday night.

    Ashton Temple led the Warriors with 16 points, while Brett Boland finished with 13 and Drake Mckenzie had 10.

    Sumter was led by Blaine Winsett who scored 14 points on the night. Nathan Williamson and Blake Jowers scored 10 points for Sumter as well.

    Russell moved to 3-3 with the win .

Russell Christian Academy (girls) 47

Sumter Academy 28

    The Russell Christian Academy girls basketball team breezed past Sumter Academy Friday night, beating the Lady Eagles 47-28.

    Payton Lippert lead the Lady Warriors with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. Blair Robinson had eight points and five rebounds and Haley Fuller had seven points and seven rebounds as well for RCA.

    Sumter was led by Mary Harmon Patrenos with 17 points
