After fumbling the opening kickoff and giving their opponent a short field, the Scott Central Rebels found themselves in a hole they would not emerge from.
Bassfield moved the ball 34 yards in five plays to score the game's first touchdown 2:23 into the Class 2A South State semifinal, which the Yellowjackets won 27-8.
Edrick Booth scored on a 7-yard run to give the visitors a 6-0 lead. An offsides call put the ball on the 1 for the point-after attempt. Larry Thompson ran it in to make it an eight-point lead.
The Yellowjackets moved from their own 36-yard line to near midfield before Josh Myers ripped off a 52-yard run. Dentairio McLoud booted the extra point, extending the lead to 15.
SC avoided the shutout when Chris Ficklin ran 8 yards to paydirt with 2:35 remaining in the first half. He also ran in the two-point conversion.
Ficklin increased his season total of 1,454 yards by 102 in the final game of his junior season.
The rest of the Rebels lineup only managed 19 rushing yards on 16 other attempts. SC added 28 passing yards.
Bassfield rumbled for 266 yards on the ground.
A pair of 23-yard runs (Jeremy Johnson and Thompson) were the final scores of the game.
Thompson's second TD was set up by one of the Yellowjackets' three interceptions.
Bassfield started the series on the Rebel 43, getting a 9-yard run on a third-and-1, extending the drive and setting up the scoring play.
Scott Central ends the season with an 8-4 mark.
