Enterprise hosting Tip-Off Classic

from staff reports

With the MHSAA prep basketball season tipping off Saturday, Enterprise girls coach Polly Kirkland is expecting a solid slate at the Lady Bulldogs Tip-Off Classic.

The four-game schedule begins at 2 p.m with Union and Raleigh. Clarkdale and Sebastopol follow at 3:30 p.m., with the host Bulldogs meeting Puckett at 5 p.m. The nightcap features Scott Central and Hattiesburg at 6:30 p.m.

"We think that the Hattiesburg-Scott Central game is going to be real, real good for the nightcap," Kirkland said. "We're counting on that to be a real big game since Hattiesburg was the state runner-up in Class 5A and Scott Central ran into the team that won it in the semifinals.

"They both should be really strong again this year, and that should be our showcase game."

Russell Christian dedicating field

Russell Christian is holding its football field dedication — which was postponed due to the severe weather during its final home game — for Sunday at 6 p.m.

At this time, RCA will officially name the Warriors' football field the "Josh Yeager Memorial Field" in memory of a young man who lost his battle to terminal brain cancer.

"Josh was only 10 years old; however, he exemplified the example of a true RCA Warrior throughout his battle with cancer and through the way he lived his life as a Christian warrior as a member of Russell Baptist Church," RCA headmaster Joey Knight said in a release.

The ceremony will include the Presentation of Colors by the NAS Color Guard, the Presentation of the Christian Flag and the Bible by RCA students, a candle lighting celebration of Josh’s life and memory, a dove release, and the unveiling of the new field sign.
