Breazeale Wins, Ashley claims MSCCS Championship

WHYNOT "The Ragin Rebel" David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS took the early lead and held off many challengers Saturday night winning the 50-lap Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series Super Late Model feature event at Whynot Motorsports Park.

"The Louisiana Lightning" David Ashley of Zachary, LA finished third, giving him his second consecutive MSCCS Title.

Ashley made an early challenge for the lead getting side-by-side with Breazeale on laps five and six, but failed to complete the pass.

Chris Ragan got by Ashley for second and put the heat on Breazeale by lap 16. He also pulled alongside the leader on lap 24 and again on lap 30.

Ragan's night was done on lap 33 as he was sidelined with mechanical issues.

Scott Slay of Clinton got his shot at the leader on lap 38 only to see Meridian's Chad Thrash and Ashley get by him battling for second.

Thrash made several attempts to take the top spot, pressuring the leader in the final laps as he and Ashely swapped places for the second.

Breazeale was not to be denied, taking the win in the final race of the season for the MSCCS. Thrash finished second with David Ashley third, Meridian's Jim McDuffie fourth, and Scott Slay fifth.

Fast time went to Chris Ragan with a 13.255.

B main winners were Scott Slay and Mike Boland of Cuba, AL. Breazeale won the Dash.

Other feature winners for the night were"The Bossman" Rodney Wing in the Open Wheel Modified feature, "Mr. Whynot" Kyle Rutledge in Street Stock, Jennifer Shelton in Mini Stock, Robi Dearing in stinger and Terry Arnsdorf and Tracy Young in Cruiser.

Whynot will take this weekend off and will back in action the following week for the season ending Fall Classic Oct. 23-25. A demolition derby and figure eight trailer races are set for Saturday, Nov. 15th at 1 p.m. For more information click here.
