Choctaw Central sweeps doubleheader

from staff reports

Choctaw Central continued its red-hot pace Monday night when the Lady Warriors swept a doubleheader from Humphreys County in area slow-pitch softball action.

The Lady Warriors won the first game 17-1, then cruised 16-2 in the nightcap to improve to 18-4 on the season. Choctaw finished 9-1 and second to Louisville in the Division 4-3A race.

In Monday's first game, the Lady Warriors scored six times each in the second and third innings.

Mercedes Cotton was 3-for-3 with a homer, triple and single and Anissa Allen was also 3-for-3 for Choctaw. Kecia Bell, Alyssa Gibson, Ashland Wallace, Kiawa Wallace and Ashton Steve all had two hits.

Steve was also the winning pitcher.

In the second game, Cotton ripped a pair of over-the-fence home runs and finished 3-for-4 with a double as Choctaw cruised.

Jelesse Baughn and Anxissa Allen both went 4-for-4, while Gibson had three hits and Bell had two. The Lady Warriors scored at least two runs in all five innings of the rout-shortened affair.

Steve (18-4) was again the winning pitcher.
