Quitman continues streak with win over division foe

Quitman continued its winning streak Thursday night, extending its record to 6-0 with a 5-0 win over division rival Northeast Lauderdale.

Seventh grader Hannah Hampton celebrated her first varsity game on the mound with the win.

After scoring a run in the first inning, Quitman edged its lead further with three runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Tori Dew led the Lady Panthers offensively with two singles, a double and three RBIs. Stormy Lewis contributed two singles, a double and an RBI. Reylanda McFarland added a single, double and an RBI, while Krystyn Davis hit two singles.

Kandance Knight and Kaley Hull led the hitting for Northeast with two singles each.

Quitman is now 2-0 in division play.

Enterprise 11

Taylorsville 0



Enterprise went on a hitting spree in the early going against Taylorsville Thursday night. Scoring 11 runs off 13 hits, Enterprise easily shut out the Lady Tartars.

Summer Robinson led the hitting for Enterprise with a home run, two singles and three RBIs. Hayleigh Harper notched two singles and three RBIs. Bethany Volking and Jordan Farrar each added two singles.

Enterprise improved to 6-5 for the season and will host its tournament this weekend.

Southeast 21

Heildelberg 0



Southeast Lauderdale earned its first division win Thursday against Heidelberg. In a 21-0 win, pitcher Eric Conley improved her record to 6-4.

Leading the hitting for the Lady Tigers were Paige Sheppard with two hits, Lainie Simcox with three hits, Brittany Pounders with two hits, Brianna Newell with three hits and Shelby Sheppard with a double.

Southeast improves to 6-4 and will face Meridian at home on Tuesday at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m.

The Lady Raiders scored another shutout victory Thursday night, this time against Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

Covered with mud from a messy rain-soaked field, Lamar scored five goals by the end of the game.

Margaret Cady led the scoring with two goals and two assists. Mary Margaret Arrington contributed one goal and one assist. Mary Grace Cady and Alexandra White each added a goal.

Leading defenders for the game included Ally Anne Phillips, Merry Grace Coffin and Mary Lela Valentine.

Lamar’s next home game will be held Sept. 8 at Jackson Prep at 4 p.m.
