Rutledge gets triple double at Whynot

Kyle Rutledge of Whynot raced his way to a triple double in a thrilling night of racing action Saturday at Whynot Motorsports park.

Rutledge has now won two features in the same night for the third time this season and second week in a row. But it wasn't easy. In the Street Stock feature 15 year Old Eric Mazingo of Gilbertown, Ala., was putting the pressure on Rutledge all the way to the finish line.

Mazingo finished second and Kyle Mars in his third time in a race car finished third.

In the Open Wheel feature Rutledge found himself in a side by side battle with his dad Tim Rutledge the entire race as Kyle would edge out his dad by about a foot at the finish.

"He earned it, I didn't give it to him" dad Tim Rutledge said.

Jim McDuffie of Meridian grabbed the early lead on pole sitter Lucky Keeton and won the NeSmith Chevrolet weekly Late Model series feature. McDuffie mastered lap traffic to perfection late in the race holding off a hard charging Roger Rolison (second).

Keeton finished third. He set fast time among 20 Late Models with a 13.891

Robert Underwood of Hattiesburg won the Mini Stock feature over Johnny Pearson and Jennifer Shelton. Jose Perez of Jackson won the Stinger race.

Sparks were flying in the two-man Cruiser feature as John "Popcorn' Mercer and Danna "Leadfoot" Williams edged out Randy and Nicky Ward by about a foot after the two cars made contact as they were side by side crossing the finish line.

Whynot will race this Saturday night with another action packed regular racing series event.

Coming up Aug. 29-30 will be the NeSmith Chevrolet National Touring Late Model Series for a 75-lap, $5,000-to-win event — plus a fireworks show during intermission. For more info go to whynotmotorsportspark.com.
