Softball roundup

Quitman scored four times in the top of the fifth inning and never trailed again in taking a come-from-behind, 6-4 win over homestanding Union in a matchup of two of the area's top slow-pitch softball teams Monday.

The win in the makeup contest from last week improved the Lady Panthers to 4-0.

Union scored three times in the first inning and led 3-1 until Quitman's four-run rally in the fifth.

Quitman had 11 hits, including three singles and an RBI from Stormy Lewis. Krystyn Davis and Sarah Neely had two hits each, while Tori Dew had one hit and two RBIs.

Brooke Dew was the winning pitcher for the Lady Panthers, who go to Petal Thursday.

Union was led offensively by Kayla Bates, who had three hits.

Wayne Academy 4

Russell Christian 3



The visiting Lady Jaguars scored the winning run in the sixth inning to get past Russell Christian Academy in area MPSA fast-pitch action Monday.

Russell scored twice in the third inning to grab the lead before Wayne answered with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth to go ahead. RCA made it 3-3 with a run in the fifth.

Seventh-grader Kayla Bishop earned the win on the hill for the Lady Jaguars, while losing pitcher Kelsey Wilson struck out 11 and in a solid effort for the Lady Warriors.

Wilson, Lauren Thrash, Jade McLeod, Kelli Harkins and Erin Garrison had hits for Russell, which fell to 1-4.

Meagan Cran had a double for WA, while Bishop and Reagan Nicholson had singles.

Russell is back at home today, hosting Sylva-Bay Academy.

Central Academy 9

Heidelberg Academy 7



The Lady Vikings pieced together 11 base hits and ran their record to 14-3 on the season by knocking off visiting Heidelberg Academy in Macon.

Lillian Lindsey had a single and double and Alex Dawkins had one hit and drove in three runs to lead Central. Corey Dawkins and Hannah Martin had two hits apiece.

Lindsey was the winning pitcher, while Kelsey Rogers was the loser for Heidelberg.

Shannon Holloway, Rachel Chancellor, Rebecca Chancellor and Morgan Lee all had two singles while Emily Harwell had a single and double for the Lady Rebels. Seventh-grader Lauren Brashier added a double.

Central hosts Oak Hill Academy today, while Heidelberg Academy visits Kemper Academy.
