With today's edition of the 30 Days of Football countdown, perhaps a little clarification is needed.

For nearly three weeks now, the Star has been counting down the days until the opening night of high school football, which is set for Aug. 29. While we have turned the daily spotlight of numerous players and teams from the area, as well as other unique facets that make Mississippi high school football special, the countdown isn't all The Star has planned.

In addition to the 30 Days countdown, the Star will also release its annual area high school preview one day before all area teams will hit the field for the first time.

Slated for Aug. 28, our annual preview will feature in-depth profiles and team pictures of all 27 teams within the Star's coverage area, including all eight Lauderdale County teams.

In addition to previews, there will also be 2008 schedules and rosters for all teams as well as feature stories on select area players.

Until then, the countdown to kickoff continues on a daily basis until football's return, which can't come soon enough.

Currently, area MPSA teams are gearing up for the 2008 season opener, which happens to be this Friday night. MPSA teams from around the area, including Lamar School, Russell Christian and Calvary Christian, will open their seasons one week before their MHSAA counterparts.
