Defending champions Ed Brown and Chuck Gordon were defeated in match-play quarterfinals Saturday afternoon in the annual Bill Davis Fourth of July Golf Tournament at Northwood Country Club.
Brown and Gordon fell to Robert Sanford and Tony Polizzi, who used the win to move into this morning's semifinals at Northwood.
Sanford and Polizzi will face off against Chuck Rea and Dan Angero at 8:30 a.m. They'll tee off on No. 1, with the winner moving into this afternoon's 1 p.m. championship match.
The other semifinal match in the championship flight which tees off at 8:30 this morning pits Jarrod Moulds and Nick Brown against Bobby Maddox and Billy Ray Cary — also on the No. 1 box.
Moulds and Brown — who won the tournament three consecutive years before falling in the 2008 semifinals — topped Alex Weddington and David Ray in their quarterfinal match Saturday. Maddox and Cary defeated Doyle Bryan and Judge Little.
Each of the semifinal matches in the championship, first, second, third and fourth flights — as well as the semifinals of those flights' consolation brackets — will tee off at 8:30 this morning, with the finals slated for 1 p.m., this afternoon.
