All-state defensive tackle Josh Boyd of Philadelphia has verbally committed to Mississippi State.
Boyd made his college football choice known early Tuesday morning. He is rated as a four-star prospect by multiple online recruiting services, including scout.com.
A 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman, Boyd recorded 154 tackles in earning first-team, all-state honors a year ago for first-year head coach Teddy Dyess at Philly. It's the second straight year Boyd has racked up more than 100 tackles, and 27 of his stops in 2007 were for a loss.
Boyd, who can officially sign with the Bulldogs on Feb. 4, also had scholarship offers from Michigan, Florida State, LSU and Tennessee — just to name a few.
He is a two-time member of The Meridian Star's All-Area Football team.
Boyd also becomes the third player from The Star's coverage area to give a non-binding, verbal commitment to MSU — joining Meridian High School quarterback Tyler Russell and MHS wide receiver Chris Smith.
