Area teams dominate youth baseball division

— The Meridian Slammers took the gold medal in the 10-year-old division of the 2009 State Games of Mississippi Youth Baseball tournament, defeating the East Missisippi American from Meridian 19-9.
The American claimed the silver medal, while the Enterprise Bulldogs and the Neshoba Braves setled for bronze. The tournament was held June 27-28 at Northside Park in Philadelphia as one of the 29 sports in the 18th Annual State Games of Mississippi.
In the 9-year-old division, the Meridian Chargers took the bronze medal. The gold went to the Hammers from Columbus and the silver to Madison's Hurricanes.
