Croom’s Diabetes tourney set for Wednesday at Dancing Rabbit

Former Mississippi State University football coach Jackie Sherill made the golf tournament bearing his name one of the biggest fund-raisers of the year for the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.

Current MSU coach Sylvester Croom has picked up right where Sherrill left off.

The Sylvester Croom Golf Classic benefiting the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi will be played Wednesday at Dancing Rabbit, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 and the four-person scramble begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Sherrill and Croom have raised thousands for the Diabetes Foundation with the golf tournament, which this year will be followed by a cocktail reception sponsored by Chief Phillip Martin and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

A silent and live auction featuring Mississippi State tickets and sports memorabilia, trips, airline tickets and other great prizes is also planned.

“Every year, Bulldog supporters make this a wonderful day of fun for a good cause ... and every penny raised by the foundation stays in the state to fund research, provide services and education and to send children with diabetes to camp.”

Individuals may still register for $250, and four-team packages are available for $1,000. The entry fees cover 18 holes of golf (green fees and cart), lunch, all beverages during play, prizes and the cocktail/awards reception.

Team prizes will be awarded to low net categories and individual prizes will be given for long drives, long putts and closest-to-the-pin contests.
