Whynot

By Scott White

Special to The Star

David James of Meridian used the last turn on the final lap to get by last year's track champion Kyle Rutledge at the finish line to win the Street Stock feature race Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.

As the feature got under way, it was Wayne Medders of Morton and James battling side by side for the first two laps. Medders took the lead on lap three as Rutledge took second from James.

Medders give up the lead under an early race caution as car trouble sent him to the pit.

Rutledge inherited the lead on the restart and the battle was on between he and James.

James pulled alongside Rutledge on the final lap as the two raced side by side all the way to the finish with James taking the win by half a car. Clint Crawford finished third.

Jim McDuffie of Merdian went flag to flag winning his first NeSmith Chevrolet weekly Crate Late Model racing series event of the season over second place Roger Rollison and third place Talbert Goldman. Rollison led all Qualifying with a 13.789.

Jason Brock of Sulligent, Ala., won the Open Wheel Modified feature over second-place finisher Kyle Rutledge and Ben Stephens.

Jennifer Shelton won the Mini Stock feature over second place Brian Quinn and third place Bill Bunyard.

Jamie Mozingo collected his first win in the Stinger feature over second place Teney Stowell and third place Logan Hembree.

Whynot Motorsports Park will be back in action this Friday and Saturday night with the Open Wheel Modified $5000 to win C & B Contracting "60".

Friday night will be qualifying and heats for the Open Wheel. Also heat and feature races in the Mini Stock, Stinger and Cruiser. Saturday night will be B main and feature races for the Open Wheel. Also heat and feature races in the Street Stock and Crate Late Model.

Don't miss the Historical Modified race this weekend at the "Action Track of the South." For more info go to whynotmotorsportspark.com.
