Calvary

Down a game in their best-of-three series against Deer Creek School, the Calvary Christian Cougars made the long bus ride to the Delta today, looking to even the series and ensure a game three at home for Friday.

Mission accomplished.

The Cougars, led by a gutsy effort from starting pitcher Stephen Hudson, needed just five innings to dispatch Deer Creek Tuesday night, returning home with a 15-1 victory in tow.

Hudson, who has missed most of the season with an injured arm, cam through when Calvary needed him Tuesday, limiting Deer Creek to just a pair of hits in four innings of work.

"He gave us everything he had," remarked Calvary head coach Jerry Dean. "He pitched entirely on guts tonight."

Offensively, Hudson picked up a pair of hits and drove in two runs to lead the Calvary attack. Jacob Mathis doubled and drove in five runs while Jeremy Mathis singled and delivered three RBIs. Jonathan Bartlett singled and drove in two while Josh Crane singled and picked up one RBI.

With the MPSA Class A series now tied at one game apiece, Calvary and Deer Creek will return to Q.V. Sykes Park in Meridian for game three Friday, which is slated to start at 5 p.m.
