Area Roundup (April 8) — Calvary tosses pair of no-hitters in sweep

Calvary Christian School's Kyle Koch struck out nine and didn't give up a single hit to help the Cougars to a 10-0 victory over visiting Immanuel Christian in area high school baseball action from late Tuesday night.
It was the second no-hitter and second win of the day for Calvary, which beat Immanuel 13-3 in the first game of their doubleheader at Q.V Sykes Park.
In the second game, Koch fanned nine and walked two in improving to 5-2 on the year.
His teammates backed him with seven runs in the first, another in the second and two in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.
Johnathan Bartlett had a pair of hits and three RBIs to lead Calvary's offensive attack, while Koch added a double. Justin Sylvester and Terry Jordan had one hit apiece.
The Cougars are now 8-6 overall and 8-4 in MPSA District 3-A action.

In the first of their two games Tuesday, the Cougars scored seven times in the bottom of the third inning to build an 8-0 advantage and coasted to an easy win over the visiting Rams.
Sylvester, making his first start of the year, got the win on the mound and combined with Bartlett on the first of a pair of no-hitters on the day for Calvary.
Mo Dale had a double for the Cougars, while Steven Cannell had one hit and two RBIs. Jordan, Trey Chapman and Gabe Lofton all added one hit apiece.
Immanuel scored all three of its runs without the aid of a hit in the fourth inning, but CCS ended the game by the 10-run rule by scoring five runs in the fifth.
Calvary will travel to Calhoun Academy Friday for its final two district games of the season.

Wildcats capture
MHS Invitational
Meridian High School's boys captured first place in the MHS Spring Invitational earlier this week at Briarwood Country Club.
The Wildcats fought through the blustery and chilly conditions to fire a team total of 314, beating runnerup Clinton by six strokes. Clarkdale (385) and Southeast Lauderdale (394) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Meridian's Todd Murphy also won medalist honors, picking up his second individual title of the spring season. Murphy shot a 1-over-par 73.
Starkville won the girls' title with a team total of 238, edging Meridian (269) and Clinton (271). Paige Watson shot a 116 and won medalist honors for the Lady Yellowjackets.
In the junior-varsity division, Meridian won with a team total of 298, beating Clinton by 15 strokes. Travis Bethea shot an 88 to win JV medalist honors for the Wildcats.

DECATUR — The Lady Warriors rallied twice to edge visiting Jones County on Tuesday.
After the Lady Bobcats scored twice in the fourth inning of the opener, East Central responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning before JCJC added one lone tally in the sixth.
Leah Dennis doubled twice for ECCC, while Amy Sharp had a double and Britney Cochran singled. Amber Smith posted the victory.
In the nightcap, the Lady Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to complete a late comeback. JCJC led 3-0 after just two innings before ECCC scored lone runs in the fifth and sixth to spark the rally.
Hannah Lee singled twice and doubled for ECCC, while Allison Phillips singled twice. Brandy Greer had a double and Sharp singled.
Erin Breland was the winning pitcher.
