ELLISVILLE – Kacy Stewart and Katie Holifield combined on a one-hit shutout to lead the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats to a 2-0 victory over East Mississippi in game one of a doubleheader here Tuesday.

In game two, EMCC bounced back for a 5-2 victory.

The Lady Bobcats are now 10-6.

In the first game, Stewart allowed just a single to Brooke Lee in the second inning. Holifield came on to pitch the final two innings and get the save. They combined for three strikeouts.

Lauren Lewis scored JCJC’s first run in the fourth inning when she walked, took second on a passed ball and later came home on an error. The Lady Bobcats got their second run in the sixth when Sam Comer singled and later scored.

Comer had a double and a single for Jones, while Kasey McCann and Ashley Cassidy added singles.

In Game 2, EMCC scored three runs in the second and two in the seventh. Jones got a run in the third and one in the seventh.

Cassidy, Kirsten Perry and Meghan Romero had singles for the Lady Bobcats.

Holifield started and took the loss, while Stewart came on in the fourth to finish up in relief.

Josie Matthews, Summer Frost and Stephanie Pounders had two singles each for EMCC. Danyelle Dore, Ashley Clark and Brittney Jeffcoats added singles.

Pounders was the winning pitcher.

The Cougars dropped a pair of matches in Jones County Tuesday, including a 6-1 setback at the hands of Northeast Jones.

Newton County's lone win came in No. 1 girls' doubles, when Elise Gibbs and Claire Tadlock defeated Allison Rudolph and Shelby Walker 6-0, 6-3.

NCHS' Cory Edwards fell 6-0, 6-0 in boys' singles, while Cassie Munn dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 decision in girls' singles.

In boys' doubles, Darius Walker and Jason Hancock fell 6-7 (7), 6-3, 10-7 while Richie Ferguson and Blake Cochran lost 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-5.

In No. 2 girls' doubles, Newton County's Emily Lucy and Kelsey Tadlock dropped a 6-1, 1-6, 10-6 decision; and in mixed doubles, Wayne Dowden and Lauren Lurk lost 6-2, 6-1.

NCHS also fell to West Jones Tuesday, as the Cougars slipped to 1-3 on the season.

Elise Gibbs and Claire Tadlock won 6-3, 7-6 (3) in No. 1 girls' doubles, while Emily Lucy and Kelsey Tadlock won 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 girls' doubles.

In boys' singles, Cory Edwards fell 6-0, 6-0; while Cassie Munn lost 6-2, 6-1 in girls' singles.

In boys' doubles, NCHS' Darius Walker and Jason Hancock lost 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 and Richie Ferguson and Blake Cochran fell 6-1, 6-0.

In mixed doubles, Wayne Dowden and Celia Boggan dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision.

Newton County is back in action next Tuesday against both Raleigh and Bailey in Forest.
