Bowling Column: League meetings moved up one week

by Mike Carson / bowling columnist
The Meridian Star

The hottest summer on record continues to make us sweat but the cool confines of Dixie Bowl continues to greet bowlers of all ages. With only three weeks left in the summer season, bowlers are gearing up for the 2006-07 fall and winter season.

The past few weeks I have been reporting that league meetings would be held August 21-25 with the season starting the following week. However, after discussions with local association and league officers, the decision has been made to move up these dates one week. The finalized schedule now calls for league organizational meetings to begin August 14-19 with action for the new season beginning August 21-25.

All bowlers are strongly encouraged to attend organizational meetings. Whether you are a returning member or a new bowler these meeting will present information that you need to know. Openings for teems and individuals will be available in all leagues and is especially important for new members to attend these meetings. Call Dixie Bowl Lanes at 601-483-2283 or stop by and any of the staff will be happy to assist you.

We are also only a few weeks away from the beginning of our annual Doubles Tournament. The tournament will run every weekend for six weeks beginning with our annual Doubles Tournament. The tournament will run every weekend for six weeks beginning August 19 before concluding on September 24. Shifts will also be held on Labor Day. The winning team is guaranteed to receive a minimum $6000. You may bowl as often as you like and may bowl with as many partners as you like and may bowl with as many partners as you like each time you bowl. For more information contact Stan Bottorff or go online to www.bowling100.com

The weekly Colored Pin No-Tap tournament continues to attract bowlers each Friday night at 7 pm. Last week’s winners were M.A. Copeland for the men and Sue Kirkpatrick for the ladies. This week’s edition will feature extra prizes and monetary awards. Any bowler who brings in a new bowler who has never taken part in a Stan’s Classic tournament will have their entry reduced by $5.

The Stan’s Classic Tournaments 4-game and 8-game sweeper moves to Hattiesburg this weekend. Action begins at 11a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday at Hub Lanes on Hwy 49 North. Contact Stan Bottorff for more information.

That’s all for this week. Until next week, good luck and good bowling.
