Here it is, nearly the middle of July with the sun beating down. It’s hard to believe, but that means the start of the 2006-07 Fall & Winter season is drawing closer. Tentative plans call for most league organizational meetings to begin the week of August 21-25 with the majority of leagues beginning the following week. A complete schedule should be released in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, league secretaries can begin to contact returning members and begin putting together team rosters.
Of course, new bowlers are always welcome in all leagues. A sign-up book will be available as soon as the schedule is finalized and published. Openings for individuals and full teams will be available in all leagues. Be sure to call or come by Dixie Bowl for more information.
Summer tournament action continues this weekend when the Stan’s Classic Tournaments travels to Fultondale, AL Saturday and Sunday with a 4 & 8 Game Sweeper at Pine Bowl Lanes. The next installment will take place at Hub Bowling Lanes in Hattiesburg the weekend of July 29-30.
The annual Doubles Tournament will be running a slightly different schedule this year. The tournament this year will begin August 19 and run each weekend through September 24. There will be four shifts each Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and five shifts each Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. There will also be two shifts on Labor Day at Noon and 2 p.m.
You may bowl with as many partners as you want each time you participate. Optional High Game Pots and Brackets will also be available each shift. For more information, contact Stan Bottorff at Dixie Bowl or online at www.bowling100.com.
The weekly Colored Pin No-Tap tournament continues Friday nights at 7 p.m. Last week’s winners were Terrie Scott for the ladies and Shine Gray for the men. Shine also punched out the sixth no-tap perfect game of the summer in the process.
Due to State games and then the 4th of July holiday weekend, attendance has been a little slower in the last few weeks. However, things are once again picking up and preregistration is strongly encouraged each week. You may do this at the control desk at Dixie Bowl. Walk-ins are welcome but can only be accepted on a lane availability basis. Cash prizes are awarded for natural strikes in a variety of colored pin combinations. Other ways to cash include colored wheel spins and optional strike pots and brackets.
That’s all for this week. Until next week, good luck and good bowling.
