Thanks to all who participated in State Games

by Mike Carson / bowling columnist
The Meridian Star

The days are getting hotter and the action is slowing down for a bit, but the bowling continues throughout the sweltering summer. Thanks go out to all bowlers who took part in last weekend’s State Games competitions and the Stan’s Classic Sweeper. While things were a big hectic at times, everyone seemed to enjoy the experience and had a good time. Shayne Barfield, Lisa Barfield and Jason Pierce of the State Games and Stan Bottorff all express their appreciation for all who took part in the weekend’s activities.

Tournament action will slow down a bit before picking back up with the annual doubles tournament in a few weeks.

The tournament will run on a different time schedule this year. We will have more on this in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, summer league action continues with the Random league, the Senior Citizens league, the scratch Sweepers on Monday nights at 7:30 and the Trio league on Thursdays. Believe it or not, the 2006-07 fall league action is now only about six weeks away and schedules will be coming out soon.

Action also continues each Friday night with the weekly Colored Pin No-Tap tournament at pm. Last week’s winners were Taneezia Cook for the ladies and Tyrone McAlpine for the men. Possibly due to State Games activities, only thirty-four bowlers took part. The prize money is there for the taking. If you don’t believe me, ask Donna Kendricks, who won $90 a couple of weeks ago and never broke a hundred in any game. The tournament will run each Friday night through August 18. Those interested in participating are encouraged to preregister each week. Walk-ins are welcome, but can only be accepted on a lane availability basis.

That’s all for this week. Until next week, I wish you good luck and good bowling.
