Bowling Column: Meridian's Formby to receive honor

By M.A. Copeland and Regina Anderson / bowling columnists
The Meridian Star

The Mississippi Women's Bowling Association will be holding their annual meeting on April 7th in Natchez, MS where a local Meridian woman will be taking the spotlight as she will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Mary Formby, joined with Beth Anderson of Jones County and Pat Newton of Corinth, will join the ranks of others for their meritorious service. Formby is an active member of the Women's and Youth Associations and is currently supporting the high school bowling program across the state where she coaches students from Southeast High School. We congratulate these women for their hard work and dedication to the sport of bowling.

Action at the lanes starts off with Mike Cothern not only tying Brian Mattox for high game of 279, Cothern also picked up a 268 game to take home high series of 732. Alan Terral also picked up a 700 series with a 278 game and 721 series, while M.A. Copeland lands back to back 700s with an even 700 series this week. More high games include Herb Bruister, 278; Jim Fisher, 268; Ryan Malley, 266; Mark Moss, 258; Barry Woods, 257; Shayne Barfield and Jesse Mendiola, 256; Tyrone McAlpine, 254, 253; Jason Pierce, 252; and Ronny Phillips with a 250 game. Adrienne Watkins takes home high series for the ladies picking up her first 600 series with a 634 and Paula Wooten and Kate Grant, also tying for high game, picks up a 246 game with Wooten also picking up a 611 series. Denise Rutledge takes home a 232 series and 613 series and Mary Edmonds picked up a 222 game. For the youth, Colton Dooley for the third week in a row takes home high game and series for his whopping 236 game and 600 series while J.T. Dearman picked up a 229 game.

That's all for this week. Good luck and good bowling.
