Bowling Column: High schools prepare for first road trip of bowling season

by M.A. Copeland and Regina Anderson / bowling columnists
The Meridian Star

High School bowling teams will have their first travel match in February, when varsity teams from Meridian, Clarkdale, Southeast, and Northeast school will make their first journey for team competitions on February 18th to Rebelanes in Tupelo, MS, and the following weekend we will be welcoming teams from the Tupelo area down to Dixie Bowl Lanes. We invite you all out to help support your schools' team and show your school spirit.

The USBC YABA city tournament dates have been changed from February 25th and 26th to April 8th and 9th. All USBC youth members are encouraged to sign-up and compete in team, double, and single events.

Action at the lanes this week starts off again with Ken Miller taking home high game of 279 and another 700 series with a whopping 741. Other high games include Robert Ross with a 277, M.A. Copeland with a 267, 253 game, while Bill Fike and William Allen tied with 257 games. Ladies' scores were very close this week with Yolanda Edmonds taking home high game of 242 and scoring a huge 630 series, but Taneezia Cook took home high series shooting a 238 game to finish with a stunning 663 series. Top ladies include Cathy Jones with a 233 and Janie Tisdale with a 222 game. Youth bowlers are still putting up high scores. Saturday mornings' Terrence Brown scored a 215 game and 545 series to take home bragging rights for the guys, while Amanda Rickles takes high games for the girl with a massive 243 game and 526 series.

Some of you have been inquiring about how Mike Carson has been on his long road to recovery. Mike is doing better, and has been making short appearances to the lanes. He sent out his best wishes to all of you and his appreciation for all the nice comments and prayers you have sent to him during his time of need.

That's all the news. Good luck and good bowling!
