Gone from us

The staff of The Meridian Star is saddened to report the loss of a member of our newspaper family, 19-year-old Emily Kate Anglin, who died Friday night in a traffic accident near Columbus.

She was the daughter of former Star publisher Paul Barrett and his wife, Lisa, of Meridian, and Dent and Pam Anglin of Jackson. A sophomore at Mississippi State University, she was spending part of her summer as a newsroom intern at The Meridian Star.

Emily was a joy to be around, eager to be a part of the newsroom, excited about learning new things. She loved “downloading” the comics pages, and just Friday afternoon said, “I’m getting really fast at it!” Emily also did a lot of work on special sections that will be published in July — overcoming an initial shyness as she learned to meet people on the phone.

She was beautiful of face and spirit, and our hearts ache for her parents, relatives and many friends. Emily’s funeral will be Monday in Laurel; see page A4 for more information.

We miss you, Emily.
