Host serves guest hot dogs while he eats steak

Dear Sidney,
I was invited to a cookout this weekend and was not prepared for what happened. It was given by neighbors that I could take or leave, but our husbands are friends so I relented and went anyway.
There were several couples invited, so you can Imagine my surprise when I was served a hotdog and potato chips along with the other invited guest, while "Bob" had prepared himself a steak. I was floored and was ready to go right away. Not that I don't like the occasional hotdog, but to flaunt a steak in front of your guest seemed beyond rude.
Am I being petty for thinking guest should enjoy the same food as the host? I'm from the school where the guest get the red carpet treatment. Should I say something, or should I just mark it up as another reason not to spend time with them?
Signed,
Where's the beef?
Dear Beef ...
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!!
I mean, did he say anything during the meal?? Did he say anything like, "Hope you don't mind, but I'm having a steak and you're having the parts that fell off the cow and were stuffed into an edible tube"? Did he laugh or giggle like it was a joke when he served you guys??? Was his head misshapen (that might indicate his momma dropped him on it when he was wet)?
To help me with this, I turned to the dictionary and looked up the word "tacky" and found: "Any bozo that serves tube steaks to guests while he eats ribeye."
And you want to know if I think you're being "petty for thinking your guest should enjoy the same food as the host????" In a word, NO. You're not being petty. Had it been me, I would have looked for the hidden camera. I guess I'm getting old (okay, I'm not guessing), but I think at some point, I would have asked for a bite or offered him to trade.
Whether you should go or not go the next time is up to you, but I, personally, would go just to see what his next stunt is ... and if you do, please write!!!! It would have to go a long way to top this one!
Love,
Sidney
