From the Shepherd’s Heart

MERIDIAN — “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today.” — Exodus 14:13

Waiting on God to work can be a nerve- racking experience. The Hebrews felt like they were “between a rock and a hard place.” They had left Egypt only to be trapped with the Red Sea on one side and the approaching Egyptian army on the other. They knew that God had led them there but they wondered “why?”

When I feel like I am “between a rock and a hard place,” I focus on my threat, not my solution. Can’t you see the dust on the horizon as the army approaches? Fear and anxiety are the only feelings we have.

Moses encouraged the Hebrews to believe that God was about to do something with this problem. As a matter of fact, Moses said that today is the day they will “see the salvation of the Lord.” Moses believed the day was not for disaster, but for victory.

Moses also reminded them that it was a day that God would accomplish what they saw. This may be a God-sized project. But our God is more than up for the challenge.

Man’s response is to “stand still.” Running in circles gets us nowhere. Wringing our hands accomplishes nothing. Complaining and arguing produces no answers. Coming up with our own answers can get in God’s way. Sometimes, the best action is to “Be still and know that I am God.”

By the way, the Hebrews crossed over on dry ground and the Egyptian army disappeared. Maybe your situation can do the same, if you will let God provide the answer.
