Autism Awareness Seminar

MERIDIAN —     The Church of the Mediator, Oak Hill Baptist Church, and TEEAM (Together Enhancing Autism Across Mississippi) are sponsoring an awareness seminar on autism.

The seminar will be held at the Church of the Mediator on April 9 at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Mark Yeager of the Yeager Group's Dr. Mark Yeager, who is considered the father of the Mississippi autism movement.

He has been working with disorders of this type and others since 1975. Yeager has dedicated his life to helping families affected by autism and is considered the foremost authority in the field in our state, according to a press release. He has also worked with others outside Mississippi both nationally and internationally.

Yeager is the author of the so called Autism Bill of Rights, a document that helps parents of autistic children know what rights their children have regarding their educational and other needs. He was the first educator to teach classes dedicated to autism in Mississippi institutions of higher learning, the press release states, adding that, "He brings both a deeper awareness of the disorder plus hope for those who deal with the challenges of it."

The seminar will be free to the public. The Church of the Mediator is located at 3831 35th Avenue in Meridian.
