Signposts on the road to Armageddon

MERIDIAN —     The New York Times, SHANGHAI, China published April 2, 2013 “that four more people in the coastal part of the country had been infected with a new strain of bird flu … All four were infected with a strain of bird flu identified as H7N9, which was not found in humans before the Shanghai cases … and … are troubling because there is no vaccine.”

Seniors and mothers with small children find this frightening. What is the U.S. Health Department going to do? As the potential for disease to enter the U.S. is calculated the government must readily admit that very little is known about the diseases.

Biological research has been conducted by the Chemical Corp. and I was tapped out for R&D immediately after graduating from the University. Because of potential exposure to Anthrax, Tularemia and dysentery, the Army injected multiple rounds of shots on a weekly basis. Frightening? Yes! But that research and the participation of many men greeted in a similar fashion as me brought about vaccines that protected our fighting men in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the globe.

You bet, I am proud of my contribution. But, the Bible raises various questions that should challenge our minds.

During the Tribulation period when the 21 judgments take place on the earth the apocalyptic Pale Horse appears with his rider, Death. The Pale Horse is given authority “over a fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.” (Revelation 6:8)

When asked by His disciples about the end of the age, Jesus included as a sign that “there shall be famines, and pestilences.” (Matthew 24:7)

In these pestilences we find the monkey virus, AIDS, swine flu and even catastrophic effects from nuclear meltdown as it was described by Zechariah 14:12.  “And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.” It must be nuclear.

Then, Zechariah 14:15 adds, “And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.”

This awesome plague is not intended for the people of God. God said choose Me and confess Me as savior of your life. Revelation 3:10 states, "Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth."

More importantly, when the end of the age nears and God proceeds to keep His Word, Paul recorded in 1Thessaionians 5:9. “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
