Signposts on the road to Armageddon

MERIDIAN — Near the Wailing Wall is the access to the underground Temple vaults in Jerusalem, which are amazing to any visitor who may want to walk on at least one of the entrances upon which Jesus walked.

The area above the tunnel network has been controlled by the Muslims since 691 AD. The Muslims call the area above the tunnel network the Dome of the Rock and the Israelites call the site the Temple Mount.

The original Temple Solomon built was destroyed by Babylon King Nebuchadnezzar and rebuilt by the Israelites returning from captivity. It was later referred to as Herod’s Temple.

Giant foundation stones weighing 586 tons are sighted by Temple guides to observers in the underground passages as a construction wonder. How were these foundation stones moved into place? Today, there is not a piece of construction equipment that is able to physically lift and move the bedrock stone. Equally immoveable is the religious hold on the Temple Mount by the Muslims.

Will the third Temple be built in the near future? Jesus said there will be a Temple at “the end of the age.”

Jesus was referring to a third Temple for he stated in a discussion with his disciples in Matthew 24:1-2 that the Temple would be destroyed. He said of the Temple building, "Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; everyone will be thrown down."

The predicted destruction occurred in 70 AD by the Romans.

Referring to the Prophet Daniel in Matthew 24:15, Jesus turns from the close of the age to the Tribulation which precedes the second coming of Christ. Daniel 9:27 states, “he (the anti-Christ) will confirm a covenant (with Israel) and many for one week (of years). In the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the (third) temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

Every day, three times a day, Jews recite this prayer: "May it be your will that the Temple be speedily rebuilt,” as was broadcast on CBN. This is a major sign in the return of Christ.

Everything points to this event occurring in the generation that removed control from the gentiles and returned control of Jerusalem to Israel in the Six Day War of 1967. The Temple must be rebuilt if the words of Jesus are true when He predicted that the anti-Christ would declare himself as God. Thus, the abomination will remove the worship of God from the Temple.

The 1967 logic regarding the Dome and the Temple Mount would not allow Jews to visit the Temple Mount, known to be the holiest location to all Jewish believers. But today, discussion is strong that the Temple Mount could be the site of both Muslims and Jewish believers in a peace agreement.

The scripture gives support in Revelation 11:1-2 which instructs John to measure the Temple of the future, the Altar and them that Worship therein.          Reading verse 2, “but the court which is without the Temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.”

Could this be a prediction from Jesus that the Third Temple will be rebuilt on a Divided Temple Mount? Could the rebuilding of the Temple be placed on the North side of the Islamic Dome of the Rock? The architectural location would allow the Messiah to come directly through the Eastern Gate and into His Temple.

Notice that the instruction regarding the measurement of the outer court is withheld “for it is given to the gentiles” as they will trample it underfoot from the time of the abomination until Messiah returns literally to the earth 42 months later.  At that time Jesus will defeat the enemies of God with the sword of His mouth that is the Word of God.

John said in Revelation 19:11, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, (Verse 19:16) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
