Signposts on the road to Armageddon

MERIDIAN —     Amid all the celebratory season of peace when Christians remember the crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus the Son of God, the Meridian Star published on A8 (3/30/13) a challenge from North Korea leader Kim Jong Un.      The youthful leader warned his forces were ready “to settle accounts with the U.S.”  As the U.S. flew a B-2 bomber in a training mission in South Korea surely Kim had to check his pants for fall out.  Kim Jong must know that NUCLEAR WEAPONS ARE "NOT A BARGAINING CHIP."

The United States also deployed F-22 stealth fighter jets on Sunday in an intended show of strength.

Brave warriors like my friend double amputee Jack Griffin held high the banner of this country. What a price Jack paid for each of us to have freedom and now we listen to a youth who does not know the smell of war, does not know what it is like to have a job and in his dictatorial role does not know how his Korean people have suffered during the rebuilding of that nation.

Today, North Korea is formidable with an army of 1,106,000. The Korean Peninsula is already in a state of war as nations agreed to a cease fire in the Korean War that did not include a peace agreement.

The Bible speaks of the king of the East in Revelation 16:12 with an army of 200 million men in chapter 9:16. China will have 40 million unmarried males by 2020 and another group of war capable males that total 160 million, according to a report by Hudson and Andrea Den Boer of Britain's University of Kent.

Other Asian nations that could be added to this number, such as the Taiwanese  and South Koreans in addition to other nations, will easily fill the Bible predicted number.

What will America do as the little King speaks words of incitement? Yes, we have a manpower army available that exceeds that of North Korea. With our nation standing on the brink of bankruptcy and financial chaos half of this nation wants to know why we need a standing army of 1.5 million fighting men and women.

The peaceniks want to discuss what we may give away in order to have peace. We have so many citizens that believe we can say peace and it will happen. However, America has always sought peace and negotiated peace through strength and not weakness.

As we look at the Bible, Ezekiel 39:12, God says the powers to the west of Israel will be reduced by some means such as finance, reduced army or other weakness. The predicted invasion of Russia/Gog into the Middle East at the end of the Age will bring the question regarding the intent of the invasion.

Have you come to take a spoil? Have you come for oil, gold, nuclear ability or do you seek to occupy the land? The implied response is that there will be nothing from the West and God must handle the protection of Israel.

The little King of North Korea flaunts the scary intriguing message that he is a nuclear power and that we must contend with and consider North Korea. The Bible teaches that there will be condition in the later days that appear to be nuclear.

The language from Zechariah 14 appears to have been written today for school children to understand the effect of nuclear war as he writes, “Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.”

Another description is given in 2 Peter 3:10 that says, “The heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” This could easily have described the event of atomic bombs in Japan in 1945.

Students of the Bible know that the signs of the time continue to line up with the prophecies given by God. Conditions are so extra ordinary that the media uses the Revelation term, Armageddon, for any description which depicts the finality of life. The intent of Biblical prophecy is not to frighten. But, the purpose is to warn of ensuing events and to recognize that Rev 19:10 defines the purpose of prophecy, “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
