GODFest
A generation of destiny
By Ben Lockridge / staff writer
A flood of Christian artists will be at Singing Brakeman Park on August 23rd as GODFest '08 comes to Meridian.
GODFest is a music festival that is simply doing the great commission that can be found in the biblical book of Matthew, chapter 28 that says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
"This is what the first century church was about," said Hank Garner of BridgeBuilders Church. "It's about going into all the world and touching every people group and creating the church as it's supposed to be."
Lee Drake who is the Pastor of BridgeBuilders Church says that this idea for going out into the community is also the heart of their church.
"God doesn't reach a certain demographic group, and neither do we. We believe in the great commission and that really is the heart of this church. Whether you are rich or poor, educated or uneducated; it doesn't matter. The gospel is for everybody; and we should be reaching everybody." Drake said.
What can you expect musically speaking from GODFest?
"We have a couple of local bands that will be playing. Brian Caples and Richard Anderson are going to be doing a set. Farwell to Envy, who is Dru Jackson and his wife, we will be presenting our youth praise band, Redeemed Generation, and our headline act is Rufus Tree which is a band from the midwest." Hank Garner said.
Dawn Garner said this whole idea for GODFest began when she took a stab at opening her own personal Myspace page.
"I opened a Myspace page, because some of my friends had one. Well, this band named Rufus Tree asked to be added as one of my friends, so I checked them out, saw what they were about, listened to one of their songs, and though how cool it would be to have them come to Meridian and perform." Dawn explained.
The idea grew into GODFest, and the community gets to be a part of it.
In addition to the music, there will be inflatable rides for the kids, and numorous booths from several non-profit organizations on hand to give you information about them. There will also be plenty of food and drinks availble.
Everything at GODFest is free with the exception of the food vendors that will be there.
So, feel free to take the family to Singing Brakeman Park on August 23rd at 4 p.m. for GODFest '08.
