Back to School Summit
Local ministry event to equip students for the coming school year
By Ben Lockridge / staff writer
If you are a teenager looking for something to do today; then this is for you.
Today from 9 a.m. until noon, there will be a Back to School Celebration Summit at the Boys and Girls Club located at 1717-45th Ave.
The celebration is being brought to the club by LaBaron Hedgemon Ministries, and Hedgemon says that this is a chance to provide a positive environment for this event. The event is not just for fun either. LaBaron Hedgemon said that this event is so that teens could voice their individual concerns before returning to school.
"We want to give them a positive atmosphere that gives them an opportunity for their concerns to be voiced, but also for their minds to be renewed," Hedgmon said. "We will be targeting some specific subjects; health, disease prevention, career and education, and we have people coming in to speak on these topics."
The speakers who will be attending today are; Dr. India Williams, Youth Judge, Veldore Young, Percy Bland, and Donna Smith.
"Dr. India Williams will talk about health, Youth Judge Veldore Young will talk about character, and Percy Bland and Donna Smith will be over career and education," LaBaron explained. "Then we will come together and have one big panel, and then teenagers will be able to ask whatever questions they want; so it will be like a rap session with the experts."
In addition to the educational information, there will be free pizza provided as well as a performance by Christian artist, Prodigal Son.
